As you get older, your facial skin loses elasticity and starts to sag and droop. The underlying tissues and fat deposits on your face break down, contributing to a sunken or collapsed appearance. Years of smiling, chewing, squinting and laughing lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Additionally, sun exposure can further accelerate premature aging of your skin.
Injectables or soft-tissue fillers can help restore volume and fullness to your face, reversing the signs of aging. When injected beneath the skin, injectable facial fillers plum-up creased wrinkles and sunken areas of the face. They can also add fullness to your lips and cheeks.
These procedures are all minimally-invasive, meaning they are performed in the doctor’s office on an outpatient basis. “Cosmetic injectable treatments can be a very effective, ‘no-stress’ solution to freshen up your look and get a more youthful appearance, without having to go through surgery,” says Mark Deutsch, MD, founder of Perimeter Plastic Surgery and double board certified Atlanta plastic surgeon. Normally there is minimal discomfort during treatment, and little or no downtime following the procedure.
Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment for a “double chin,” (submental fat). The active ingredient in Kybella® effectively destroys fat cells, improving the contour of your chin and preventing fat from being stored in the future. For this reason, Kybella® is considered a permanent treatment option.
The Process, Recovery & Results
Kybella® can be safely done in the doctor’s office, in sessions of about 15 to 20 minutes each. As with the other injectable treatments mentioned here, no anesthesia, surgical cannulas, or downtime are needed. Kybella® treatments have been proven to be safe and effective. Many patients experience results in as few as two treatments.
Onabotulinumtoxin A, also known as Botox® Cosmetic, is a temporary solution to minimize and smooth “frown lines” (the lines on your forehead that are between your eyebrows) as well as neck muscle “bands,” and “crow’s feet” and “smile lines” at the corners of the eyes. Botox® works by paralyzing muscles of the face that cause your facial muscles to contract and relax.
How Botox® Works
Botox® is administered as a series of small injections, in the doctor’s office on an out-patient basis.
Results & Recovery
Results are usually apparent within 3 to 7 days after treatment , and typically from 3 to 6 months (although results vary from patient to patient). Treatment time is quick—short enough that the procedure can easily be undergone during a patient’s lunch hour. To maintain their refreshed appearance, patients will likely need follow-up injections.
