Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. Mark Franklin Deutsch is double board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of General Surgery. He performs a wide variety of plastic surgery and reconstructive procedures. He has 34 years of a rare combination of medical experience, knowledge, technical skill, compassion, and commitment to excellence, resulting in a world-class physician.

Dr. Deutsch graduated from the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine in 1989. He then completed his general surgery residency 1994 at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. After finishing his plastic surgery residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996, he completed a fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1997. He trained in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at MD Anderson, where he trained in specialized reconstructive surgeries for breast, head, and neck cancer and microvascular surgery (surgery requiring an operating microscope).

With a great deal of education under his belt, Dr. Deutsch joined the Atlanta Plastic Surgery practice. He worked there for several years, gaining a wealth of experience, before establishing his own private practice, Perimeter Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Deutsch is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), an honor and distinction shared by only a select group of plastic and reconstructive surgeons. The American College of Surgeons refers to its members as “fellows.” Fellow of the American College of Surgeons means that the surgeon’s education, training, qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed rigorous evaluations.

Dr. Deutsch has been working in the surgical field since 1989. His medical professional background includes the following:

  • Seven years of general, reconstructive, and plastic surgery training at Louisiana State University Medical Center/Charity Hospital (now named the Louisiana State University School of Medicine) and Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University (now merged with Montefiore Health System, the current University Hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine)
  • An additional one-year fellowship in cancer reconstruction at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson), one of the nation’s largest nonprofit hospital systems and widely regarded as among the best cancer hospitals in the United States. There, he has trained in the DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) flap procedure for reconstruction. This method uses tissue from the patient’s abdomen to recreate the breast mound. Dr. Deutsch is one of only a small number of surgeons in the Atlanta area who perform this type of breast reconstruction.
  • Thirty-four years of professional experience in the surgical field and 29 years of medical specialty in Plastic Surgery.

With over 34 years of experience in the field, Dr. Deutsch embraces other roles in the plastic surgery industry. He has lectured and published several articles on cancer reconstruction and other procedures, participated in the annual Atlanta Breast Surgery Symposium (an annual conference hosted by the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons).

He has traveled a number of times to South America to serve people experiencing poverty, whose surgical needs would otherwise go untreated. He is also involved in supporting the the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in Atlanta.
