Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is benign enlargement of the male breast. The tissue can be visible in variable amounts of breast and adipose tissue and the goal of the male breast reduction is to restore the normal male body image. Patients need careful evaluation by their primary care physician or endocrinologist to determine the source of their breast enlargement. The underlying cause may be a neoplasm, endocrine disorder, metabolic disease or a result of the use of specific drugs. These disorders must be ruled out prior to performing gynecomastia.
There are several surgical techniques to remove breast tissue in the male patient based on the amount of tissue that needs to be resected and reduce the size of the nipple areola complex. Dr. Deutsch will work with his patient to determine the best surgical plan to achieve the best results. Most insurance companies define this surgery as cosmetic and therefore do not cover its costs.
