Face Lift and Neck Lift
A face lift or rhytidectomy is indicated for sagging and redundant skin on the face and neck. The procedure removes excess skin and facial rhytides (wrinkles) through incisions in the hairline and around the ears for camouflage. An additional incision is made under the chin to remove excess fat and to tighten muscles and skin of the jowl area. This portion of the surgery is considered a neck lift. This can be performed with or without the face lift. There are several variations of the face lift including a “mini-face lift” vs. SMAS removal and this is decided upon after a full patient consultation.
We suggest staying overnight in the surgical suite following surgery. Head elevation is recommended the first 24 hours. Any drains are generally removed on the first postoperative day. Full recovery is 6 weeks. Patients are to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity during this time. The degree of bruising and swelling varies from patient to patient. Bruising and swelling usually resolve in 2 to 3 weeks. Patients are allowed to resume wearing makeup after 2 weeks. Patients are placed in a compression garment and given prescriptions for a narcotic and antibiotic upon discharge.
